Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Does the Fire Department provide fire trucks for Controlled Burns.

Answer: No, it takes trucks and personnel out of service, if a emergency arises they would not be able to respond because they could not leave the controlled burn.  The Fire Marshal will, free of charge, come look at the burn site and give recommendations for safety.

Question: Will the Department fill a swimming pool, water storage tank or septic tank, etc.

Answer: No, the water we use is non potable.  Water is a precious resource and what we have is for fire suppression purposes.

Question: Will the Fire Marshal inspect my home.

Answer: The Fire Marshal deals with commercial properties.  You may request a fire inspection of a residence, this is free of charge and for your information only.

Question: Does an existing commercial property have to comply with the Fire code if it was built prior to adoption.

Answer: Yes, Existing Commercial properties must comply with the minimum fire safety requirements.

Question: How do I file a complaint about a commercial property fire safety concern, or any concern regarding fire safety.

Answer: Contact the Fire Marshal via Email, phone, or in person.  All complaints are kept confidential. (nebcfire@gmail.com,  737-510-1427, office is at our station 2 in Briggs.)

Question: Do I need a burn permit?

Answer: Yes. Burn permits are free of charge, they allow us to track and be aware of Controlled burning. The Sheriff office must be called every day before burning at 512-756-8080.
